Description

Photo of Governor Horace Hildreth and his wife, Katherine Wing, with their pilot. This photo was taken on Dec 1, 1946 when the Governor and his wife were leaving Logan Airport (Boston) for Miami, Florida, to attend the National Governors Conference. Horace chaired the Conference in 1947 and 1948.

After serving as Maine's governor for two terms, Horace lost the 1948 Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to Margaret Chase Smith. He later went to serve under President Eisenhower as the Ambassador to Pakistan (1953-1957).
