Description

Hundreds of female Pepperell Mill employees participated in Biddeford and Saco's National Recovery Administration (NRA) parade on October 29, 1933. The workers marched down Main Street, headed toward the Main Street Bridge and Saco.

The NRA was part of the New Deal which brought together labor, industry and government to help in the recovery efforts by reducing "destructive competition" practices. Biddeford and Saco's business and industry joined to show their solidarity and support of these efforts in this huge parade in October 1933.

The photographer is not known for certain, but it may have been taken by the Camera Car Studio of Biddeford.
