Description
The Great Northern Paper Company boat, Blucher, and the Norcross Transportation Company boats, Orra and Rainbow docked at the Norcross wharf on North Twin Lake. Railroad tracks are visible on the wharf, which was the terminus of a spur line from the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad.
The steamer Rainbow was the largest and most active boat in the Norcross Transportation Company fleet. Rainbow hauled barges of animals, feed, and supplies to the logging camps of the upper West Branch, as well as sportsmen and their equipment to the many hunting and fishing camps along the lakes.
The Orra was an older boat constructed on-site near the wharf, and was decommissioned shortly after 1915.
The paper company used Blucher as a small tender to the company's larger tow-boat.
