Letter from George Tate II to Robert Tate, Cronstat, 1801

Description

In July 1801, Captain George Tate's son, Admiral George Tate II, wrote from Cronstat, Russia, to his brother Robert in Portland. He promised a sum of £50 Sterling toward Robert's son’s education and to help their brother Samuel.

George Tate came to Stroudwater in 1751 and served as the senior mast agent for the British Royal Navy. His youngest son, George Tate II became an admiral in the Russian Navy and served as a member of the Russian senate.
