Franklin Towers is a 16-story residential high-rise, built in 1969 on the corner of Franklin Street and Cumberland Avenue in Portland. The Towers provide housing for people who are retired, disabled, or meet other criteria.

Pictured at left is Anshe Sfard, a Chassidic synagogue built by immigrants from Eastern Europe in 1917. The congregation gradually diminished and the building was no longer used by the 1950s.

The synagogue remained empty until 1983 when the building's last owners tore it down and turned the area into a parking lot.
