Yellow ware mug, Portland, ca. 1850

Description

An old privy that was excavated at 47 Brown Street in Portland, revealed fragments from a number of ceramic items, which probably were discarded in the structure .

Yellow ware was manufactured from 1830-1940; the privy fragments most likely were made in Derbyshire, England, between 1830 and 1860.

The mug has a mocha decoration, which was in use from the 1790s until 1939.
