Walter Rounds, Co. I, 17th Maine Infantry, writes back to his cousin, Abbie Rounds to tell her what is going on near Fredericksburg, VA.

He likes the poetry that she sends and asks for more.

Sergeant Walter Rounds writes to cousin Abbie the news from the front. He again mentions her poetry and signs his letter as her affectionate cousin.

Walter Rounds is now a Corporal and wishes that Abbie would write more often.

He is going to have his picture taken and send it to her.

Corporal Rounds is leaving Augusta, Maine, to return to his regiment.

He sends Abbie a ring to remind her of him.

Corporal Walter Rounds reminisces about fun times that he shared with cousin Abbie and laughs over a private joke about Uncle Joseph's pants.

He's thankful that he's survived the first two of his three year service.

Corporal Walter Rounds professes his love for cousin Abbie and hopes she feels the same.

He has sent for a gold pen and holder, which he hopes she will accept.

In this last letter, Sergeant Walter Rounds hasn't heard from cousin Abbie in awhile, but hopes he'll get a letter in the next mail.

He also hopes that she'll send him the photograph of herself so he can see if she's as pretty as ever.
