Description
John Sheahan of Dennysville wrote to his son, 1st Lt. John P. Sheahan of the 31st Maine Infantry, who was being held prisoner at Columbia, South Carolina, to assure him that his family had written to him, even though the younger Sheahan had not received many of the letters.
The elder Sheahan reported that a fellow prisoner, Benjamin R. "Kimball" Preston of the 31st Maine had been sent to Annapolis because he was ill. He died there on October 4, 1864.
