Description
John P. Sheahan, 1st lieutenant of Co. E, Maine 31st Infantry, wrote to his father in Dennysville with instructions for writing to Sheahan, then a prisoner of war at Richland Prison (Camp Sorgum) in Columbia, South Carolina.
He told his father to write on a large sheet of paper, but only write on one sheet of it, so Sheahan could use the remainder to write back.
Sheahan assured his father he was well. He asked for news about his brothers, Henry and Ned, also in the 31st Maine. Another brother, William, was killed earlier in the war.
