Description
Writing from the 31st Maine Infantry camp near Petersburg, Virginia, 1st Lieutenant John P. Sheahan advised his father in Dennysville to buy a house he was considering in that town -- and to not listen to people in town or seek their advice.
Sheahan tells his father the people in question are not really his friends and stressed how much the family needs a house instead of the "box on the hill," which Sheahan had previously referred to as a "barn."
