Pvt. John Sheahan of the 1st Maine Cavalry, writing from the dismounted camp in Washington, D.C., discusses the death of his brother William. William Sheahan enlisted on July 15, 1861 in Co. F of the Maine 6th Infantry Regiment. He was 25 years old and given the rank of corporal. William Sheahan was killed on November 7, 1863 at Rappahannock Station, Virginia.
