Description

John Curtis, captain of a merchant ship, wrote to his wife, Letitia Bammer Curtis in Brunswick, telling her that he wanted her to join him on his next voyage.

He wrote, "This passage I have weighed well all the sick spells and all the rest and find that they are nothing compared to what I suffered this passage without you .."

He suggested they put their sons in school in England or leave them in Brunswick if they liked their teachers.

He wrote that he would not return to Brunswick as long as the Civil War lasts because he wanted nothing to do with "men who helped ruin this our dear country."
