Student Exhibit: A Photo Essay of Hand Tools found in the Swedish Colony

written by Josh Jandreau, an eighth grader at New Sweden School 2005/2006.

 Two prong hay fork, Stockholm

Tools were a necessary part of every farmer's and homeowner's life in the Swedish Colony. It was necessary to make many of the things needed and the frugal nature of these early Swedes meant that when things were broken, they were fixed. There are a lot of tools that were used back in the early 1900s that we still use today.

Thank you to the Stockholm Museum for letting me view the tools and to Mr. Asam of Maine Memory Network for photographing them.

Josh Jandreau is a student at New Sweden School.
