Description

Franklin Benjamin Sanborn (left) and Charles Malloy at Green Acre, Eliot. Both men were members of the Concord School of Philosophy and Literature.

Sanborn visited Green Acre during the years of 1894-1909 and said, "But the providential, which happens in Greenacre oftener than anywhere else, fills up all vacancies here with singular fitness, and so introduces that delightful element of the unexpected...which is a part of the celebrated 'Greenacre spirit.'"

(from "Transcendentalists in Transition.")
