Description

Hyman Deletesky of Auburn enlisted in the Army when he was a junior at Edward Little High School. He wrote to his parents about Camp Blanding in Florida, including getting a pass to visit an alligator farm where he saw alligators, crocodiles, and monkeys--all quite exotic for a teenager from Maine.

Deletetsky was killed March 7, 1945 in Germany and his body arrived in Maine at the Lewiston Central Railroad Station over 11 months later. Three of his seven brothers also served in the War.
