James Otis Kaler, 1902

Description

James Otis Kaler was a journalist who in 1902 became superintendent of South Portland schools. In 1880-1881, he serialized the story of Toby Tyler in Harper's Young People Magazine. It was a literary success. Subsequently, Kaler (under the pseudonym James Otis) wrote over 175 children's books.
