David Webber indenture document, Cumberland, 1830

Description

In June 1830, the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor, Nicholas Rideout Jr., David Buxton and Tristam Sanborn, signed an indenture that placed David Webber, son of Richard Webber of Cumberland, into an apprenticeship with David Webber of Harpswell, who was to teach the young David Webber "the art, trade, or mystery of a Husbandman," as well as "to read, write and cipher as far as the rule of three....." The young David Webber, 6 years old in 1830, was put into the care of David Webber of Harpswell until Sept. 5, 1845, when he would turn 21.

Also in 1830, Isaac Webber, age 12, another son of Richard Webber of Cumberland, and brother to David Webber, was indentured to James Hamilton of Cumberland.
