Description

This portrait of Fanny Appleton Longfellow, Henry's second wife, was done by Samuel Rowse in 1859. The drawing hangs, as it did when Henry was alive, over the fireplace in the Gold Ring Room, Henry Longfellow's bedroom at Craigie House in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is the portrait of Fanny to which Longfellow referred in his poem "The Cross of Snow."
