Dixfield Centre Cheese Factory interior, Dixfield, ca. 1880
This interior view of the Dixfield Centre Cheese Factory, ca. 1880, shows the vats and equipment used in the cheese making process. Incorporated in 1874 by Nathan Carver, William White, John Holman, and 28 others, the factory was run by D. F. Newton and only operated in the summertime. Dixfield Centre, also known as The Common, was highly agricultural. The dairy farms here and in East Dixfield provided the milk to run the factory.
