Lucretia Day letter to Kiah Sewall, Portland, 1835

Description

Lucretia Day of Portland wrote to Kiah Sewall in Boston to describe her trip from Boston, where she had visited him, back home to Portland.

The couple married in May 1836.

Sewall (1807-1865), the son of Samuel and Abigail Sewall of Edgecomb, became a lawyer. Lucretia Day Sewall (1813-1897) was the daughter of Ezekiel and Eunice Quinby Day of Portland.

At the time of their marriage, Sewall was trying to get out of debts incurred through land speculation.
