Description
Following World War 2, Herschel and Louise Nash purchased a small eatery, then owned by Red Lancaster, on upper Weld Street in Dixfield and converted it to a Nationwide Market in the mid to late 1940s. While building their new home on Nash Street, the family lived in the rear apartment of this building. The name evolved to simply Nash's Market. Herschel served this upper Weld Street neighborhood until the late 1960s when his son Doug took over the business.
The business burned in 1985 at a total loss. The property was then purchased by Gene Ellis, and he built Ellis' Variety which continues in 2013 to serve the upper Weld Street area of Dixfield.
