Description
Elliott's Diner on upper Main Street, Dixfield, is fondly remembered as a place to meet and greet friends and neighbors. By building on to the front of the Elliott home on Upper Main Street, Charles Elliott founded the business in the late 1920s. He was followed by his son Stanwood Elliott and then Dot Elliott. Hearty breakfasts, coffee and donuts, lunches, ice cream, and Chester's speciality "French Fried Popcorn" were enjoyed by patrons. The business closed in the early 1960s. In 2013, the diner structure is gone, but the home remains.
Around the early 1900s the Elliott home was the site of the L.M. Hodsdon harness shop. The house to the right was the home and practice of Dr. William Mabry Pease followed in the 1940-50s by Dr. Garfield G. Defoe.
