Portrait of Herbert A. Gilman by Vivian Milner Akers, 1886-1966.
Gilman was born and raised in Norway. At the time of his death, he was a U.S. Navy medical corpsman assigned to the Fleet Marines and had seen service in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
