Description
This letter was written by Thomas Lindsey to his uncle Abial Bishop June 19, 1863 from encampment at Great Falls on the Potomac River near Washington. He describes the people and the farming, comparing them to his home in Leeds. He describes also the hardships and deaths of homefolk who are soldiers in the 23d Maine, a nine-months regiment. He survived the war, attaining rank of corporal, and married Grace Adelia Ladd of Lawrence, Mass. He moved there after the war and had one daughter.
