Description
Ruth Mayhew, a nurse working for the Maine Camp Hospital Association and the Maine Agency Sanitary Commission, wrote to "My dear Miss F---" (probably Fessenden) about supplies received at City Point, Virginia, and the needs of soldiers.
She wrote that the nurses had been working from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight without breaks. They cooked for soldiers, kept a "sort of half-way house or general Restaurant" for Maine soldiers traveling to and from the front, and addressed other needs.
