"This was taken in August, 1929. From left to right, are Miss Eunice F. Patten, of Brooklyn; Miss Ruby Dyer, of Skowhegan; Mrs. Lois M. Palmer, of Boston; and Miss Virginia Ames, of Houlton. Mount Abram is 4,047 feet above sea level. The little structure upon which the group have climbed is very near the summit. It is built to furnish a refuge for the fire lookout warden, should he get caught up in a storm. He can crawl inside and feel reasonably secure that this little house, well banked and weighted down with rocks, will not blow him away.
This addittional information was added in July 2011; Object ID: 8993
Comment: "This is not Mt. Abram in Greenwood, it's Mt. Abraham a few miles west of Kingfield and south of Sugarloaf. Even if the historic description says Abram (short for Abraham presumably), that 4000 ft height is definitely Mt. Abraham. The mountain in Greenwood is much smaller. Also, that little house (or its descendent) is still on Mt. Abraham, well known to hikers." Information provided by Tom O'Donnell
