Description
"This structure was undoubtedly erected to hold back the waters of the Kennebec while repairs were being made on the south channel dam. The gentleman a little to the right and in the foreground is Lewis Anderson, very prominent in the early history of the textile business in Skowhegan. He came here from Troy, New York, when the local woolen mill was in need of an efficient manager and soon made it a very prosperous industry. He is here shown on a tour of inspection, probably in his capacity as a director of the Skowhegan Dam Company.
