Description

The Maine General Hospital School of Nursing class of 1950 held its baccalaureate service at the Williston Church on May 14, 1950. Commencement exercises were held at Portland High School Auditorium on May 19, 1950. Joan Wilson is standing in the first row, far right at the end of the row.

In 1950, MGH created two nursing divisions, medical and surgical, facilitating care of female patients. That year also saw the development of a disaster plan and the hiring of Dr. Burton Olmstead as the first plastic surgeon in Portland.

Maine General Hospital was the predecessor of Maine Medical Center.
