Description

The Portland Company built a total of eight locomotives for the Maine two-foot railroads. The 'two-foot' refers to the 24-inch distance between the railheads on the track. This Wiscasset & Quebec Railroad locomotive was built in 1891 as the road's No. 2 engine. Today there is only one 'two-footer' from the Portland Company remaining, and can be seen at the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmilington Railway Museum in Alna, Maine.--Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982'. Charleston, S.C. : Arcadia Pub., 2002. 37.
