A large group of men and pose on the roof and front lawn of a cottage along the Nonesuch River in Scarborough.

Captain John B. Coyle (1805-1885) of Portland was the First Engineer of the Portland Steamship Line and is in this photograph.

Others in the photo are E. Russell Barbour of Portland, a leather and rubber merchant in business with his father; William Rhodes of Portland, a steam engineer; John Taylor of Cape Elizabeth, an engineer; George Coyle of Portland, a manufacturer; E.C. Chase, Samuel Gammon and [?] Weeks.
