John and Ida Smith Letter on CCC, Readville, 1990

Contributed by Maine Conservation Corps

Description

Ida W. Smith wrote this letter to Norman "Red" Wetherington, likely on behalf of John Smith her husband, on his memories of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

She wrote "What a practical and uplifting experience it made for those who worked in the Corps and what a beautiful job was done for the improvement of the State for all of us."

Wetherington collected memories of CCC members in Maine, and coordinated CCC reunions. He is the author of "In the Public Interest: The Civilian Conservation Corps in Maine."
