Description
A freshet is a spring flood caused the melting of snow in the spring thaw. In 1936, the Androscoggin River's spring flood was violent enough to submerge bridges and cause thousands of dollars of damage. Towns as far downriver as Brunswick were affected.
This image, from the Auburn bank of the Androscoggin, was taken by the WS Libbey Company, whose textile mill is visible on the left across the river.
