The Yellow House, Northeast Harbor, ca. 1923

Contributed by Mount Desert Island Historical Society

Description

This Fred Savage designed house was built by Herman LaFritz Savage, on Rock End Road, prior to 1913. The house served as the winter home for the Savage family and was often vacated by the family in the summer and rented as a cottage of the Rock End Hotel, also owned by the Savage family. The house was often called "The Yellow House" because of its color. After Herman's death, the house served as a home for several successive generations of the Savage family.
