New Burma School, Monson, ca. 1940

Contributed by Monson Historical Society

Description

The "old" Burma School closed and was demolished, being replaced by the so called "new Burma" school. The Burma district is located on the Blanchard Road, an area that was mainly settled by Swedish and Finnish immigrants during the time that the Burma School was in operation. The school was in operation from 1906 until sometime in the mid to late 1930s. The building stands today (2013) as a private residence with minimal change to the original outside appearance.

Only three, of the original eight, former one room school houses remain in Monson.
