Water Street building, Lubec, ca. 1955

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

This image depicts a building on Water Street in Lubec from around 1955. This little building, locally known as “Puddle Dock,” stood at the extreme north end of Water Street adjacent to the Lubec-Campobello Car Ferry dock.

During the late thirties to the early fifties Joseph Ivan Mulholland worked from this building providing herring to the large Seaboard Packing Company on the west, beyond the car ferry. In the 1960’s Raymond Sprague lived and had a workshop here. The gentleman pictured here, standing arms akimbo, might be Sprague. The sign on the building at the far right, above his head, reads “NO DUMP.”
