This image the Rumford Mechanics Institute Lecture Room. Oxford Paper Company owner Hugh J. Chisholm created the Mechanics Institute for his employees to help advance the knowledge and culture of the Rumford residents and workers, many of which had a varied ethnic background as first generation immigrants.

This image is from the "Mechanics Institute, Rumford, Maine" booklet handed out at the building's ribbon cutting on November 9, 1911. It was published by University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
