Description
The man whose name appears on this plaque is probably the most well-known shipbuilder in South Bristol's history. In 1924 Harvey Gamage left a shipbuilding apprenticeship in East Boothbay to start his own shipyard in South Bristol. By 1928 he had built a home next to the shipyard, which still stands. Over his long career, which lasted until 1976, Gamage oversaw the building of hundreds of vessels for business, pleasure, and even the military. Plaques like this one were mounted on his finished products before launching.
The plaque reads "Builder of Yachts and Motor Boats Harvey F. Gamage South Bristol State of Maine"
