Silver tea service, Androscoggin Fire Company No. 2, Topsham, ca. 1870

Description

This elaborately engraved swiveled teapot with matching goblets was used for social events by the Androscoggin Fire Company No. 2 of Topsham and by the Androscoggin Veteran Firemen's Association of Topsham. Such events included teas, dances, and other community get-togethers.

The Androscoggin Veteran Firemen's Association was founded when the Androscoggin No. 2 hand engine was retired from active fire service in 1920 and became a muster unit. It won numerous muster competitions.
