"Chubb" Colby Memorial Fire Helmet, Topsham, ca. 1900

Description

This High Eagle style fire helmet, made of leather, is marked "Chubb Colby 1881-1956." Charles E. "Chubb" Colby was the longtime foreman of the Androscoggin No. 2 hand engine of Topsham. The engine was used by the Topsham Veteran Firemen's Association from 1920 until the mid 1970s. It is now on display at the Topsham Fire Department lobby.

The High Eagle helmets were manufactured by Cairns Fire Helmets and sold by Oak Hall Clothing Company of Boston, Massachusetts up until 1886.
