This is the first logo of the Centre d'Héritage Franco-Américain, a non-profit historical and cultural organization in Lewiston that was dedicated to preserving Franco-American culture.
The symbols chosen for the logo represent the mixed heritage of Franco-Americans. The golden eagle (top) is the national bird of the United States, and the image used here comes directly from the Great Seal of the United States. The Maple Leaf appears on the Canadian flag, and the Fleur-de-lys (lily flower), is associated with France.
The Centre d'Héritage existed from 1971-2 until 1989, when its assets were donated to the University of Maine System. They now form part of the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine.
