Description

Once the slate was brought to the mill from the nearby quarry by flatbed rail car, it then had to unloaded to await processing. Slate is extremely heavy therefore larger pieces, such as those in the photo, were lifted by chains and a hoist. When it was time to mill the slate into a finished product the slate was then transferred onto smaller rail cars to be brought into the mill via the tracks shown in the photo.
