Description

Taken from the edge of the pit this photograph shows two employees riding down the cable hoist box into the pit of the quarry, over 100 feet down. According to information from the photographer the power shovel was the first of kind to be used in slate quarrying. Earlier mining operations would have used manpower to remove both the high quality and rubbish slate from the pit.

This photograph is the third in a series of nine taken at the Barnard Quarry.
