The Towle and Fairbanks Logging and Sawmill operation along the Webb River was one of many mills associated with forests and wood products in Dixfield. It was located just up-river from Coburn Avenue in Dixfield and on the Backkingdom Road to Mexico.
The confluence of the Webb River and the Androscoggin River created an ideal location for mills that could have logs floated down to them for processing. After the Civil War, industrial and technological advances coupled with an abundance of readily available wood gave rise to many mills in the Dixfield area.
