Thanks for Shepley photograph, Norfolk, Va., 1865

Description

E. W. Whipple, president of the Norfolk, Virginia, Board of Trade, wrote to Brig. Gen. George F. Shepley, thanking him for sending a "beautiful, imperial photograph of yourself." The Board of Trade had requested the photo.

Shepley, a Portland lawyer, served in Norfolk during the Civil War as commander of the Division of Eastern Virginia.
