Description

"The Portland Company equipped this Civil War double-ended gunboat, the Agawam...with boilers, engines, and other equipment in 1863. The Agawam was 205 feet in length and built for the U.S. Navy. She is shown "on station' at Trents Reach, blocking the entrance to the James River in Virginia in July 1864." - Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.'
