Many volunteers who worked at stations on the hills would ride a Thiokol Spryte snowcat to get to their posts. In the background a group of hardy spectators who climbed on scaffolding to watch the races can be barely be seen behind the snowcat.
Well over 100 volunteers were needed to ensure a successful event. A large number of the volunteeers were members of the Farmington State College Ski and Outing Club. The college was located just 36 miles south of Sugarloaf and many of the students were avid skiers.
