Edmund Bruggman, a Swiss Ski Team racer is shown after finishing the men's Giant Slalom. He placed second behind Gustavo Thoeni. Gruggman had a very good chance of winning this race before his skis burned in the Swiss waxing trailer fire 2 days earlier. Considering the fact he raced on skis borrowed from Italian racer Gustavo Thoeni who placed first, he did quite well to come in second.
Bruggman was born in 1943 and lived in Flums Sitzerland in the Canton of St. Gallen. He was an outstanding Swiss racer winning 5 World Cup races (4 in Giant Slaom and 1 in Slalom) between 1968-72. He also won an Olympic Silver medal in the 1972 Olympics held in Sapporo Japan.
