This engraving appears in the book Algonquin Legends of New England or Myths and Folklore of the Micmac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot Tribes by Charles Leland (1884). Glooskap (Gluskap, Gluskabe) was a mythological being in many stories of the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Indians.
