Description

Photographer George W. French took this picture of a winding road in the countryside, and many more like it. French understood that the converging lines of the roads gave the photograph linear perspective. By capturing the hazy mountains in the distance, French also employed aerial perspective.

George Washington French (1882-1970), a native of Kezar Falls and graduate of Bates College, and wife Margaret had two children, Donald and Barbara. The family lived in New Jersey and Maine, where French pursued his career in photography.
