Alice Johnson gown, Norridgewock, ca. 1920

Contributed by Norridgewock Historical Society

Description

Painter Alice Johnson of Norridgewock purchased this gown on the occasion of a trip to Paris for an international juried exhibition at which she won honorable mention, bringing back numerous pictures and other memorabilia.

This couturier gown was made in Paris.

Alice, daughter of Amos and Fedelia Johnson, was born at 36 Maple St. in Norridgewock and lived there until her death in the house next door to the east. Her brothers built that home for her.

She probably learned to paint where she was educated, at the Eaton School where humanities and fine arts were emphasized.
